Tokyo Rose
U.S.-born Iva Toguri D'Aquino, who was dubbed "Tokyo Rose" for broadcasting anti-American propaganda from Japan during World War II, was convicted of treason and sent to federal prison for about seven years (this picture was taken at the lockup in Alderson, West Virginia). D'Aquino was pardoned by President Gerald Ford in 1977.
Well, it's up and Adam to face another day in the big city. I was watching the Today Show this morning, and motivational speaker Tony Robbins was on there giving his advice on how to keep your head in these tough times. Now, I gotta tell you, I have never been a subscriber to Mr. Robbins' type of Happy happy, Joy, joy kind of philosphy on life, but he actually made sense to me, today. Anyway, living in a city like Chicago should be enough to inspire us all to aspire to great heights, personally. In Chicago, as in life, make no small plans, for they will not excite your soul.
So, here I am taking a break in my favorite bookstore, Borders. As I sit here sipping my over-priced iced tea, and posting items on eBay to sell, I was thinking that there sure are a lot of folks in this place at midday. Either the Borders is a very popular lunchtime spot, or there are a lot of folks living the cafe lifestyle here in the city. I sort of miss the days when I had to get yp at 6:30am every day, put on the suit and tie, and hustle off to the office. Now that I'm out here trying to drum up business, posting my artwork on the web, or just blogging away my idle hours, I am really getting into that Bohemian laidback lifestyle. As I daydream away here, waiting to read about the next bid on my eBay items, I'm really begining to enjoy the slower pace of my new career race. At least until the savings run out, but that's a story for another day. But for today, I have all I need to enjoy life. My Laptop, my PDA, and a free WiFi connection. Who could ask for anything more?
What is your legacy?

I have pondered this very question for years, and yet I still have no answer. I tried to leaving a last mark from my work, but in the end that didn't happen. I guess I'm trying to find a way to leave a legacy through my art, and that might yet happen. I, like so many of us, have thought that by bring more life into the World that we would leave a lasting legacy through our children, but I have yet to sire any children. So, at the end of my day I still ponder just how I'll leave my mark for the ages. The quest continues.
I had a rather restless night, last night. I guess I am at my own "Crossroads of Indecision." As I tossed and turned wondering about all the things that blindside you at 3:20 am, I tried to find some personal solace in the fact that anything is possible, ANYTHING! Living here in Chicago, one of the greatest cities in America, anything really is possible.
It's a rainy day, today. Wet & humid, what a great combination. I am setting here trying to sell on mf my cameras online. I'm gonna part with my vintage Voigtlander Bessa I. It is a Folding Rangefinder from the 1950's, and still in great condition (yeah, I'm still really into film cameras). I will say that living in the digital age has made it so easy for a guy to conduct business of all kinds right from the comfort of his home, while still in his pajamas. Ah, life is good.
Well, I better get moving. Like I said, it's raining today here in Chicago, so I'm no big hurray to leave my apartment. Come to think of it, I really don't have to. I've got some Microwave Popcorn, Cookies, and a box of Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts, so I guess I'm good. (Man, I gotta get some real food, soon.)
I'm trying to build a presence for myself on the Internet. Check out my ever growing Portfolio on the web at http://zhibit.org/chrisvaughn/artwork. I hope it helps m drum up a little business.
